Floating Card Levitation
Category: Kids Magic · Difficulty: 2/5
A playing card hovers above your hand and dances in the air, then lands gently back on the deck.
You'll Need This to Perform the Trick
Invisible Thread Loops + Wax (Floating Card Kit) — Pre-cut invisible-thread loops and a tiny stick of magicians' wax — the only props needed for a stunning floating-card or floating-bill routine.
Step-by-Step Performance Guide
- 1. Show the Card — Have a spectator pick a card and sign the face. Place the card back on the top of the deck — make sure the audience sees this clearly.
- 2. Set the Levitation — Hold the deck flat on your left palm at waist height. Cup your right hand above the deck like you're holding an invisible energy.
- 3. Lift the Card — Slowly raise your right hand. The signed card rises off the deck, hovering a few inches in the air, following your hand's motion.
- 4. Float and Land — Move your right hand in a slow circle. The card orbits gently. Lower your right hand and the card settles softly back on top of the deck.
The Secret Behind the Trick
- 1. The Invisible Thread — A single strand of invisible elastic thread runs from a tiny dab of magicians' wax on the back of the card, up over the back of your right hand or ear, and is anchored to a button on your shirt.
- 2. Setup Before You Start — Apply the wax dab to the back of the card *before* the trick begins (or while the spectator is signing — the dab is on the back, they sign the face). Press the loop's free end onto the wax.
- 3. Lifting Mechanics — When you raise your right hand, the thread pulls the card up. Tiny hand movements translate to dramatic card movement. Keep your motions smooth.
- 4. The Disposal — When the card lands back, casually break the thread with a quick pinch. The wax stays — virtually invisible. You can hand the card out for inspection seconds later.
