Cards Across
Category: Stage Illusions · Difficulty: 4/5
Two spectators each hold ten cards. Three cards invisibly travel from one spectator's hand to the other.
You'll Need This to Perform the Trick
Bicycle Cards Across Performer Set — Two pre-counted decks plus a tested cards-across routine card. Designed for parlor and stand-up shows.
Step-by-Step Performance Guide
- 1. Two Volunteers — Bring up two volunteers. Give one volunteer 10 cards counted aloud. Give the second volunteer 10 cards counted aloud. Both confirm.
- 2. The Magic Pass — Stand between them. Make a magical gesture toward volunteer A. State: 'Three cards just left your pile and traveled across the stage to your friend.'
- 3. Recount — Volunteer A counts their pile aloud. Only 7 cards. Volunteer B counts theirs aloud. 13 cards. The math is impossible.
The Secret Behind the Trick
- 1. False Counts — Both initial counts of 10 are *false counts*. Volunteer A actually receives only 7 cards (you false-count 7 as 10) and Volunteer B receives 13 (false-counted as 10).
- 2. The Buckle Count — Use a buckle count or push-off count to make 7 cards look like 10. With a casual rhythm and clear vocal counting, audiences never spot the move.
- 3. The Reveal — When the volunteers re-count *honestly*, the actual counts are revealed. The 'transit' is presentational — there was no magic, just math hidden behind a confident performance.
