Coin Through Glass
Category: Sleight of Hand · Difficulty: 2/5
A solid coin penetrates the bottom of a thick glass tumbler in slow motion. Performed surrounded.
You'll Need This to Perform the Trick
Magicians' Working Coin Set (matching halves + shim) — A precision-engineered coin set built for through-the-table, through-the-glass, and copper-silver routines.
Step-by-Step Performance Guide
- 1. Set Up the Glass — Place a clean glass tumbler upside down on the table. Show a coin in your hand. Tap it on top of the glass — solid clinks.
- 2. The Push — Cover the glass with your hand. Slowly press the coin downward through the base.
- 3. The Penetration — Lift your hand. The coin is now sitting on the table *under* the upside-down glass. Lift the glass — the coin sits there, untouched.
The Secret Behind the Trick
- 1. Two Coins, One Hidden — There are actually two identical coins. One is finger-palmed in your hand from the start. The visible coin is shown openly.
- 2. The Switch — When you tap the coin on the glass, the visible coin gets palmed and the hidden coin appears in its place — done in a single tapping motion.
- 3. The Drop — As you cover the glass, you secretly drop the second coin onto the table behind the glass. The coin you 'pushed through' is still in your palm.
- 4. Lift and Reveal — Lift the glass to reveal the coin sitting on the table — appearing to have penetrated through. Ditch the palmed coin in your pocket later.
